Thank you to Susan Rabbitt for supporting my campaign with this thoughtful letter to the editor of the Westlake Picayune.
To the Editor:
As a former board member for Rawson Saunders School, I have a good idea of the qualities necessary to make a healthy, productive school board. Such qualities include a willingness to work as a team, the ability to anticipate future needs and plan for them, a level head and a bit of humility. Jennifer Salas has those qualities and would make a fine contribution to the Eanes school board.

Every decision I make as a trustee will be based on a commitment to providing the best possible learning environment to our students. The budget is the single biggest issue facing our district. My goal is to close the current funding gap in a gradual and thoughtful way in order to minimize the impact on the educational experience to our students. Any budget cuts the district is forced to make should focus on those that have the least impact on the classroom. Our high quality programs, and a reasonable student teacher ratio must be protected.
It is also important to work together with the larger Eanes ISD community as part of this process. Therefore, one of my main priorities as a trustee will be to unite this community around our common goal of providing the high quality education we all expect for our students.
To that end, I am proposing a Community Engagement Committee comprised of community members from all parts of our district, both with and without students in Eanes schools. This committee would help to facilitate outreach and share concerns and differing opinions from around our district. We must have school board members who have the ability to listen to all sides and build consensus.
